Booking pickleball courts in Vietnam (2026): prices, peak hours, open play and 5 beginner mistakes

Two years ago "pickleball" was an unfamiliar word in Vietnam. In August 2026 sports courts were the fastest-growing category on BookMe and seven out of ten court bookings were pickleball. If you have just been invited to play and have no idea where to start, this is everything you need before your first session.

How to book without hearing "all courts are full"

1. Check live availability: on BookMe each cluster shows every court in 60-minute slots. Weekend peak hours usually sell out 2 to 3 days ahead.
2. Recurring bookings: if your group plays every Tuesday night, set "repeat weekly" to hold the court for a month.
3. QR check-in: scan at the gate, no confirmation calls.
4. Cancel up to 4 hours before for a refund; outdoor courts reschedule free in rain.
5. Split payment: one person books and shares a VietQR link with the group.

Open play: how to play before you have a group

Open play is a session where a venue takes individual sign-ups and organises games by level. Saigon Pickle Club Rooftop, for example, runs three open-play sessions every evening at 80,000₫ per person, split into 2.5 to 3.0 and 3.5+. It is the fastest way to find a weekly group, and most sessions in Ho Chi Minh City have a mix of Vietnamese and expat players.

Tip: rate yourself honestly. Over-rating gets you overwhelmed and makes the game worse for all four players.

Five beginner mistakes

1. Running shoes: curved soles roll ankles on lateral moves. Wear badminton, tennis or pickleball shoes with flat soles.
2. Booking 60 minutes for four beginners: you will want more. Book 90 to 120 minutes.
3. Buying an expensive paddle on day one: rent for 2 or 3 sessions and try several before buying (a good beginner paddle is 800,000 to 1,500,000₫).
4. No water, no warm-up: pickleball looks gentle but your shoulders and knees work hard. Five minutes of warm-up, one litre of water.
5. Learning during peak hours: expensive and crowded. Weekday mornings are 40 to 50% cheaper and empty enough to practise serves.

Choosing a venue

• Surface: multi-layer acrylic is less slippery than epoxy paint; indoor PVC mats are kindest on knees.
• Lighting: LED above 300 lux, no glare into your hitting direction.
• Net and lines: 86 cm net height at the centre; painted regulation lines rather than tape.
• Facilities: showers, parking, water, paddle rental.
