Nail salons in Hanoi with English, Korean or Japanese-speaking staff: gel, nail art and 2026 prices

Getting your nails done in Hanoi is cheap, fast and usually excellent. The hard part is explaining what you want. "Short almond, milky pink, a little chrome" can come back as long, square and glittery if nobody in the room shares a language. Here is how I steer expat friends, visiting family and Korean and Japanese colleagues to the right chair.

Where to find English, Korean or Japanese-speaking nail salons in Hanoi

A salon's languages follow its regulars. Pick the right neighbourhood and most of the problem disappears.

Tây Hồ (West Lake): English by default

Tây Hồ has Hanoi's longest-established Western expat community. Salons around Xuân Diệu, Quảng An and the Âu Cơ stretch are used to foreign clients, so asking prices and choosing colours in English is usually smooth.

A note on addresses: since 1 July 2025 Vietnam has no urban districts. Most of this area now sits in the new Tây Hồ ward (merging Bưởi, Xuân La and parts of Quảng An, Nhật Tân, Tứ Liên and Yên Phụ). Maps, taxi drivers and locals still say "Tây Hồ", so search either way.

Cầu Giấy, Trung Hòa Nhân Chính and Mỹ Đình: Korean and Japanese residents

The Trung Hòa Nhân Chính urban area has been Hanoi's informal Koreatown for years, while Mỹ Đình and the streets around Keangnam draw Korean and Japanese families, helped by the Japanese School of Hanoi being there. After the merger, Trung Hòa Nhân Chính falls mostly in Yên Hòa ward, part of Mỹ Đình is in Từ Liêm ward, and Dịch Vọng and Quan Hoa are in Cầu Giấy ward.

Many salons here specialise in Korean-style sets. Not every one has a Korean speaker, but technicians are used to working from the Instagram and Pinterest screenshots Korean clients bring.

Ba Đình (Kim Mã, Liễu Giai) and the Old Quarter

Kim Mã, Linh Lang and Đào Tấn streets were historically Hanoi's main Japanese neighbourhood, near the Japanese Embassy on Liễu Giai. Liễu Giai and part of Kim Mã are now in Ngọc Hà ward. The Old Quarter in Hoàn Kiếm caters to tourists; basic English is enough to pick a colour and shape.

How to get the set you want without a shared language

In my experience a good photo matters more than fluency. Vietnamese technicians read reference images quickly; you just need to lock in a few details.

1. Save two or three reference photos and a screenshot of the gel shade you like.
2. Confirm length and shape: short or medium; square, oval or almond.
3. Say whether it is on your natural nail or an extension, because the price is two to three times higher for extensions.
4. Ask for the all-in price before starting, including art, stones and removing old gel.

Korean, Japanese or Western style: which to ask for

• Korean style: sheer jelly colours, milky pink, glass nails, soft cat-eye. Office-friendly and photogenic; costs close to regular gel plus the effect.
• Japanese style: short, tidy nails, fine detail, carefully placed stones and 3D charms. It takes longer, so book 90 minutes or more and ask for a quote per design.
• Western style: long almond or coffin shapes, bold colour, micro French tips. Usually needs builder gel or acrylic.

Fluent English is not the same as clean tools
